Since hanging the new pictures in our bedrooms and corridors we often get asked about the photographers and why they work together. Dave Peck, the groups organisor has pulled the following background information together for us, we hope you find it interesting
The Painting with Light Society:
The Painting with Light Society is a group of digital landscape photographers based in East Anglia. Conceived by Dave Peck, the society was initially formed to exhibit at the St Helena Hospice conference/education centre in Colchester. This first location had sufficient wall space for nearly sixty prints ranging from A1 down to A4 in size. From the scale of this first exhibition the society was born. The images you see feature some of these images along with some more recent work. As our chosen charity we give a percentage of all sales from this exhibition to the hospice.
The society’s name was chosen to describe the member’s passion for producing striking landscape images full of colour and atmosphere. These colours are as captured by the camera, we don’t change colours in the computer. Even though the members have unique styles to their work they all have one thing in common, the ability to understand and work with light.
Over the past few years we have met on East Anglia’s magnificent beaches, enjoying the light, and each others company. We have also exhibited our work together all over East Anglia. Outside the society each member still pursue their own projects ranging from books, to magazine features and competition wins. We are really proud to have in our midst the 2007 Take-a-View Landscape photographer of the year 2007 and three further members have received the Highly Commended accolade (Ian has 5!). This competition is open to a world wide entry and is sponsored by The Sunday Times, The AA and Light & Land. Hopefully many more successes will follow, keep your eye out for us.
To sum up the reason for the Societies existence, here is founder member Dave Peck on the society
‘The Painting with Light Society has been a passion of mine for a few years now. It is a privilege to exhibit and spend some time with these talented boys and girls.
Personally speaking landscape photography is a time for me, a time to escape our busy lives and to just stand and admire the wonders of nature. To be able to do this in the company of the members of the society and marvel at the images they find on the same beach, with the same dawn, only makes it all the more enjoyable.’
