North Norfolk is full of stately homes and historic houses which speak of the counties past prosperity and affluence and current popularity with leading aristocratic families. Some of the North Norfolk stately homes and historic houses such as Holkham Hall and Sandringham are still owned by the descendants of these families. North Norfolk is known for its stately homes with state-of-the-art historic houses, each of which boasts marvelous architectural wonders of the old age.

Out of the many historic houses in Norfolk, the most famous ones are National Trust properties at Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall, privately owned Holkham Hall and the Queens Country home at Sandringham. Blickling Hall is one of the most romantic Norfolk stately homes, and it is was designed by the very famous architect Robert Lyminge. Felbrigg Hall was the home of the Wyndham family for 500 years. Both these historic houses in Norfolk have superb gothic libraries. These two properties are currently under the ownership of National Trust Norfolk. National Trust Norfolk promotes these Norfolk stately homes opening them for visitors between the months of March and October.

In spite of still being a privately owned property Holkham Hall is still open for tourists and is considered as one of the most prestigious historic houses in Norfolk. It is a magnificent example of English Palladian style built by Thomas Coke. It also features a 3,000-acre park containing a mile-long lake with nature trail. Sandringham is famous as the private home of the Royal family who famously celebrate Christmas there every year, leaving the house in February.  The house is open to the public between March and October, although tourists can explore the parkland throughout the year.
